What is the Fable 4 release date? After years of rumors, Fable was finally revealed at the Xbox 2020 Showcase, but details about the long-awaited sequel have been thin on the ground following that announcement. But don’t despair, young chicken chaser – we do have some details that we can share to ahead of the Fable 4 release date.
For one thing, we know Fable 4 is currently being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. We also know that it won’t be called Fable 4 at all. Join us while we dig through the juicy details, discuss what’s likely to appear, and gush openly about what we’re hopeful about in the whimsical action-adventure game.
Fable 4 release date speculation
Our best estimate on the Fable 4 release date is late 2024, though there has been no official confirmation as of yet. The game is rumored to appear during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
Fable 4 is slated to appear at the Xbox Games Showcase after a short teaser for the showcase was released via the official Xbox Twitter account. This video depicts a trail of glitter leading from an Xbox controller to a PC monitor emblazoned with the showcase logo. While there’s no direct confirmation that this relates to Fable 4, the glitter, music, and previous showcase announcements all indicate that Fable 4’s appearance this year is a pretty safe bet.
In terms of official word, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed in an interview back in 2021 that Fable 4 will be out before the Elder Scrolls 6 release date, but that doesn’t give us much to go on for the time being. However, seeing as we’ve only seen a short announcement trailer, we’ll take the joy of just knowing a sequel to one of the best PC games is still in development for now.
Fable 4 trailer
The Fable 4 announcement trailer debuted as part of the Xbox and Bethesda 2020 showcase. It starts with a fairy flying between objects like swords and skulls in a magical forest to the soothing voice of a British narrator. It’s very Fable in its humor, right up to the moment a large toad devours the fairy and it pans above the treetops to a view of Bowerstone.
Fable 4 setting
This leads us on to Fable 4’s setting. We can see what looks like the town of Bowerstone in the background – a key Fable location – and it takes on the same appearance as it does in both Fable 1 and 2. Bowerstone does, however, seem to be a lot bigger in the trailer than past games. The town seems to sprawl between the hilltops, which suggests much bigger environments and possibly an even larger open world than we’ve seen before.
Fable 4 development
Tom Gaulton, lead engineer at Playground Games, revealed on Twitter that he has been working on Fable for four years. A lot of games with this much development time typically show more than a teaser trailer, but it appears Playground Games want to take things slow. Sadly, this doesn’t tell us anything about when we should expect the game to launch.
Fable 4 story
We also see a glint of the Heroes Guild seal crest on the aforementioned sword’s hilt, which could mean the Heroes Guild could well feature again. Fable fans aren’t strangers to the Guild. Its distinctive icon appears around Albion, for example on Hero Hill in Fable 2, and the guild itself first appeared in the first Fable. The Guild seal, which also bears the icon, is also famous for letting you fast travel around the open world, as well as allowing you to talk to the Guild Master in the original Fable (remember, “Hero, your will energy is low”?) and Theresa in Fable 2 and 3.
We’re glad to see the steampunk setting dwindle behind Fable’s new stunning vistas and hope for a more mythological story that definitely matches up to the trailer’s fairy character and the forests’ strange fauna and flora in the giant mushrooms and prancing fish. We also hoping for a return of trolls, nymphs, and hobbes while we’re at it.
